Pulling pieces of information together for a personal EdTech PD program.
How can we assess creatively?
To be clear here, I don't want to go to much into "creativity and divergent thinking" but I'd like to see how we can use technology to present information or assess in different ways. We are all used to presenting in one way or another, mostly this involves powerpoint - but are there any other ways? Of course there are, and this page will highlight just a few different tools we, or more importantly our students can use. That way we can think about how we ask students to present their learning to us. Digital Technology has really opened the door for and it offers us many opportunities for multimedia productions.
"Creativity is not an option, it's an absolute necessity."
Standardized tests measure conformity really well, and we can't seam to get away from it. There are some advantages to standardized tests but on the whole they don't really support the individual - and they are anything but fun! Many schools have bought into external examinations and we will never get away from this, but there are many things we can do in classes. Instead of tests, think assessment, think about - "Dear students, show me you understand this", and watch what they come up with. If it's a presentation then perhaps we need to nudge them in an alternative direction and experience all the tools out there.
